The 1927 flood was one of the greatest natural disasters to strike Vermont, causing over 30 million dollars of destruction. Early November rains caused flooding in cities, towns and the countryside. Most means of communication broke down and traveling was often done by foot. Nevertheless, the story of the flood is not just one of wreckage and ruin, but of determination and survival.

November of 1927 brought a great revolution (a sudden change) to Vermont in the form of a huge flood.

People outside the state didn't know what was
happening in Vermont because most means of communication were down. The reaction of Vermonters was to use alternative ways of communicating, and to heroically make repairs (to reform) as needed.
